CLIPPINGS
1. OBITUARY (Monday Aug 29 1904) - PARKS. Violetta A. Marshall, widow of the
late S. A. Parks, whose death occurred Saturday evening was born in Chester in
the year 1830. She married Alfred
Snedeker December 19 1850. After a few
years spent in Troy Mr. and Mrs. Snedeker moved to Glens Falls, where Mr.
Snedeker died in 1871. In 1885 Mrs.
Snedeker married Solomon A. Parks, who died April 26, 1900. Since his death Mrs. Parks has lived at the
home of her son, William S. Snedeker, 2 Madison street. Her death occurred there on Saturday evening,
August 27. For nearly five years she had
been an invalid, suffering from a complication of illnesses, but on February 18
the last sickness began and for all these months she had patiently suffered and
looked forward to the time of her release.
These figures give but the bare details of a long, a conscientiously
useful and devoted life. She was one of
those rare spirits to whom it was pleasant duty to do with the might what the
land found to do. She did not spare
herself in her devotion to her home life or to the many outside interests that
engaged her attention. Her love for the
Baptist church of our village was strong and showed itself in a steady service
of forty years' devotion to all its work. She was interested in the moral
welfare of young men and was a supporter of the work of the Young Men's
Christian Association. The turning of
men to God from evil ways always touched a responsive chord of gratitude in her
heart. She loved to be doing good. She will be greatly missed by all who knew
her, but most deeply by those who have watched her uncomplaining endurance of
great pain and her bright, cheerful acceptance of her lot. She is at rest in the Lord, whose she was and
whom she served. Mrs. Parks is survived
by a son William S. Snedeker, and a daughter Mrs. Lynn D. Champlain. The funeral services will be held on Tuesday,
August 30, at 3 p.m., at No. 2 Madison streeet.
