On the west side of the railroad, about a thousand feet from the crossing of the road between Fenimore and Hudson Falls, near the bridge (See map link above), are two graves:

THE BITELY

(1827 – 1908)

This cemetery is situated west of highway C29 (between Fort Edward and Bacon Hill) a few miles below Fort Edward a short distance from the road. (See map link above.)

Jacob Bitely settled here before the Revolution. The family was driven off and the home was destroyed by the Burgoyne invasion in 1777. Two of his sons, John and Henry, together with their neighbors, Nathan Duryee, Lidius Duryee and Ephriam Greehan, were taken as prisoners to Canada.

There are no records to indicate that Jacob Bitely or his other sons, Jacob and Peter, are buried here.

ROGERS

This cemetery (photo) is situated in the triangular section formed by the railroad, the river road and the river. It was a part of the original Rogers farm. Moreau Station was across the highway on the railroad. (See map link above.)
