The following are the Records of the Baptist Church in Greenfield part of them drawn off from the former Book and the rest of them are acts of the Church that never was recorded on the former Book-------

The following is the Written Covenant of the Baptist Church in Greenfield. We do now in the presents [sic] of the great all seeing and glorious God and before angels and men give up our selves to the Lord Jehovah Father son and holy ghost and avouch him this Day to be our savior God our Father our savior our Leader and ______him as our ___forever we give up our selves to the Lord Jesus Christ and ____to him as the head of his people in the Covenant of Grace and rely on him as our Prophet Priest and King to bring us into Eternal Blessings praying him to remind us of our Everlasting and serius obligations to glorify him by Living a holy Righteous and Godly Life in this present Evil World in all our several ___ and relations, and we do engage by the assistance of the Divine spirit to improve all our time and strength Talents and andvantages [sic] for his glory and the good of our fellow men, Promising by Divine help to walk in our houses with a perfect heart and to Train up those under our care in the ways of God and we also give up our selves to one another in Covenant, promising to __ towards each other as brethren in the Lord Love of God, and to watch against grave evils and all manner of ___Talking and feasting which are not convenient also against vain dissenting about words and things that gender strife. Disregarding promises not fulfiling engagements. Talking and Backbiting Spending time idlely at Taverns or elsewhere and vain unnessary worldly conversation on Lords Days and whatsoever else that is contrary to sound doctrine according to the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ promising to hold covenant together in the worship of God and in the Ordinances of

and Discipline of his house or Church according as we are or shall be led by the spirit of our God in his Word Expecting that he will the(n) glorously [sic] open his word and the mysteries of his Kingdom -----flying[sic] to the Blood the Everlasting Covenant for the pardon of our many errors and praying that the Lord would forgive us and strengthen us for Every good word and work to do his will working in us that which is well pleasing in his sight through Jesus Christ our Lord to whome[sic] be glory forever. Amen -----

We whose names are here under written do take this Covenant to be the Covenant that we have entered into to be for God and none else and to take the word of God for the ___ of our Council and the Rule of Discipline in all things that if any shall deviate or draw of from this Covenant that we shall take Divine Rule to Reclaim them or Cut them off Even so amen ------

September 13th AD 1794 Met in Conference at the house of Brother Isaac Reynolds According to appointment and after singin[sic] and solemn prair[sic] to God for his Divine assistance we proceeded and Renewed Covenant and found a happy Union and proceeded to business as follows ---1st We received a request from the Church of God at the ___ praying us to send our well Beloved Elder to Administer the Ordinence [sic] of Baptism and the Lords Supper 2nd The Church agreed to Answer the Request

October 11th AD 1794 Then we met in Conference at the house of Brother Isaac Reynolds’s According to appointment and after solemn prair to God for strength Indeavored to Renew Covenant found a happy Union and proceeded to Business 1st Sister Kezia Ketcham Requested a Letter Of Recommendation 2nd The Church agreed to answer the Request 3rd A Nomber of Bretheren was appointed to visit our Dilatory Bretheren and admonish them to their Duty

November 8th AD 1794 Then we met in Conference at the house of Brother Isaac Reynolds’es and opened Meeting by prair to our God for his Assistence and then proceeded to renew Covenant with God and one with another and find a Comfortable union one with another and then proceded to business as follows ---1st Received a Request from the Baptist Church at ___bush Requesting us to send our Elder and a number of Bretheren to sit with them in Council in order to settle some difficulties among them---2ndThe Church agreed to answer their request and chose bretheren as follows Elder Craw Brother David Mallery Brother Samuel Finch Brother Albert Finch and Brother John Lawrence to attend the said Council

Saturday December 13 AD 1794 Then Met in Conference at the House of Brother Isaac Reynolds’s According to appointment Opened meeting by Prair (sic) to God for his assistence and proceeded to renew Covenant and found a Comfortable Union thanks be to God and then proceded to business as follows---1st Chose Brother John Holmes Moderator for the day. Excommunicated Brother Roger Haggerity for joining Affinity with the World, and for Refusing to hear the Church---2nd Received a Request from a number of Bretheren at Galoway [sic] Requesting us to send our Beloved Elder and a number of faithful Bretheren to sit with them in Council on the last Wednesday of this month in order to give them fellowship as a Church if it appeared requested. 3rd The Church agreed to Answer the Request and Chose Bretheren Elder Craw Brother David Mallery Brother Daniel Green Brother Isaac ____and Brother John Holmes to answer the Request--- 4th Received an accusation against Brother Elnathan Finch by Sister Jemimah Haggarty as follows their was a story raised against tow Different persons and Brother Finch said that the story never would have spread if it had not abean for Rhoday and her Mother Hewit and afterwords Denied it and then he owned it and said it was a common talk 5th The Church Chose a Committee of five Bretherens to inspect into the matter and to make Returns to the Church the next Covenant Day the Committee names were Bro. David Mallery Brother Daniel Green Bro John Holmes Bro William Johnston and Bro Isaac Brewster

January 10th AD 1795 The Church met in conference at the House of Brother Isaac Reynolds’s after prair to God for assistence proceed to business 1st Chose Brother David Mallery Moderator 2nd The Committee maid[sic] the return to the Church of their proceedings in the Cause of Sister Haggarty against Brother Finch as follows---

Greenfield December 16th 1794 The Committee met according to appointment at the house of Deacon Brewsters opened meeting by prair and proceed to Business as follows 1st Chose Brother David Mallery Moderator and Bro. Daniel Green Clark. Evidances Called. 1st Rhoday Hewit said she asked Brother Finch if he reported that she and her mother Hewit spread the story he answered no. upon which sister Haggerty asked him if he could look her in the faice [sic] and say if it had not bean for Rhoday and her mother Hewit the story never would have spread he answered yes he could---Bro Isaac Reynolds’s Evidence is that he Denied mentioning the said names but they talk at their familys Darius Reynolds informed that he heard Bro Finch say that he never mentioned the said names Sarah Renolds informed that Bro Finch Denied mentioning the womens names but it was their common talk in their families. Brother Brewster’s evidance is that Bro Finch Denied he ever told that Rhoday Hewit and her mother spread the story. The committee took the matter into Consideration and according to their judgment they find the accusation sufficiently proved. 3rd The Church approbaited the proceedings and Judgment of the Committee.

4th Church took labour with Brother Finch and convinced him of his error although Brother Finch affirmed that what he had said amis was through inadvertence not knowingly. Brother Finch acknowledged publickly that he was sorry for what he had said amiss and thereby gave satisfaction to the greatest part of the Church

January 26 AD 1795 Then met in conference at the house of Brother Daniel Green after prair to God for his assistence and proceeded to business as follows 1st proceeded to know the minds of some of our Brethren that were not satisfyed with Bro Finches Confession on our Last Church Conference and they manifested that they were not satisfyed---2nd Brother Finch proceeded to a further confession to the full satisfaction of the Church and we feel to (give?) Glory to God for his assistence through Jesus Christ our Lord Amen

February 14th AD 1795 Then in Conference at the House of Brother Isaac Reynolds’s and after singing and prair to God for his assistence we proceeded and renewed Covenant and a very happy meeting among the Bretheren and then proceeded to business as follows Received a letter

Page 12From our Covenant Bretheren at Florida which informed us that their was general union among them which was comfort to us 2nd Received a Request from the 2 Baptist Church in Milton Desiring us to send our Elder and faithful Bretheren to sit with them in Counsil in order to ordain Bro Israel Craw if Expedient 3 The Church agreed to answer the Request and Chose Bretheren Elder Craw Bro Isaac Brewster Bro John Holmes Brother Stephen Rogers and Brother Walter L Patchin to answer the Request 4 A Number of Bretheren Requested Letters of commendation and likewise Sisters Brother Daniel Green Brother Jonathan Lawrence Brother Elnathan Finch and Brother John Barber Sisters Jane Lawrence Mary Green Sarah Finch and Hannah Sweet 5 Concluded by prair to God

March 13 AD 1795 Then met in Conference at the House of Brother Seamour Sherwood’s after sing and prair to God for his Divine and then proceeded to business as follows ---1 Received a Letter of Request from the Church of Christ at the great bend and granted the Request 2 Received a letter of Request from the Church of Christ at the beach and maple woods and granted the Request.

April the 11 1795 Relative to an apointment met in conference at the House of Bro Sherwood After singing and prayer to Almighty God Business entered upon was Renewing Covanant and found them in Union. Bro Brewster and two Bro was nominated with our beloved Eld Craw, and one from Warrensbush to go to Sl[sic] Association in Stillwater. Read and approved of by the Church.

May 9th 1795 Relative to an pointment met in Conference at the House of sherewood’s After singing praying to Almighty God for Divin Assistance and then proceed to Business as follows. 1 Renewed Covanant and found the Church in a good union as a body. 2 granted a request from the Baptist C. of Queenbury Br Eld Craw Bro Bruster and Bro Seamour Sherwood was chosen to go answer the above request. 3 The Church move to call Br Eld Craw to preach among us steady and found it to be a ___ 4 Members appointed to visit the Brethren that did not attend. Read and approved by the Church.

June the 13 1795 Relative to an appointment met in conference at the House of Br Isaac Reynolds open meeting by prayer and praise to Almighty God for Divine Assistance and then proceeded to Business as follows 1ly Chose Br Green Roggers Moderator for the day 2ly Renewed Covenant and found the Church in a union as a body 3ly Chose Brethren to visit those that did not attend. Read and approved of by the Church.

John Holms modarator for the day 2ly Renewed Covenant and found the Church in a good Union as a Body 3ly Answered a request from the Mayfield Church of Christ 4ly Appointed Brethren to attend with our Beloved Elr the said request. Read and approved of by the Church.

Sat August 8th 1795 Then Met in Confrence by an pointment at the School House open meeting by sing. And prayer to Almighty God for Divine Assistance then proceed to business as follows 1ly Renewed Covenant and found the Church in a good union as a Body 2ly Set open doors 3ly Received a request from the Pattern 4ly Granted the said request and Chose Br Barbe and Br ___ and Br Bruster to attend the said request with our Beloved Eld. Read and approved of by the Church.

Saturday Sep 12th 1795 Then met in Confrence by an pointment at the House of Br. Wm. Johnson’s open meeting by sing. And prayer to Almighty God for Divine Assistance and then proceeded to Business as follows 1ly Chose Br Green Roggers Modarator for the day 2ly Renewed Covanant and found the Church in a good Union as a Body 3ly Set open door. Read and Approved of by the Church.

Saturday Nov. the 14, 1795 Then met in Confrence at the House of Br. Isaac Reynolds. After singing and prayer to Almighty God for Assistance then proceed to business as follows 1ly Renewed Covanant and found the Church in a good union as Body. 2ly Chose a Committy [sic] for one Quarter to Settle Church Charges 3ly Chose Brethren to visit those that did not attend. Read and approved by the Church.

December the 12, 1795 Then met in Confrence by an Appointment at the School House. Open Meeting by prayer and sing. To Almighty God for Divine Assistance and then proceed to business as follows 1ly Chose Br. Isaac Bruster Moderator for the day. 2ly Renewed Covenant and found the Church in good Union as a Body. 3ly Set Open Doors. Read & Approved of by Church.

Saturday Jan the 9 1796 Then met in Confrence by an Appointment at the House of Br. Isaac Reynolds. Open Meeting by Sing. And prayer to Almighty God for Divine Assistance and then proceed to Business as follows 1ly Renewed CovenantEnd of Page 15Page 16And found the Church in a good Union as a body. 2ly Set open doors 3ly Reviewed the returns of this Quarterly Committy and found the Business do__ the Churchs m__. 4ly Br. John Holms and Wife requested a Recommend and it was granted. Read and Approved of by the Church.

Feb the 13 1796 Then met in Confrence by an Appointment at the House of Br. Isaac Reynolds. Open meeting by sing. And prayer to Almighty God for Divine Assistance and then proceed to Business as follows 1ly Renewed Covenant and found the Church in a good Union as a Body. 2ly Set open Doors. 3ly Received a letter from the first Baptist Church of Christ in Saratoga Bearing date Feb. the 6, 1796 Requesting our Eld with faithfull Brethren to Attend a Council of the Saratoga Church on the 24th of the said Month & found the Church willing to grant the said request. 4ly Chose our Eld and Br Isaac Bruster and Br. Semour Sherwood to (attend or visit [both crossed out]}the said request. 5ly Chose a Committee to visit our beloved Brethren at Worvensbush to look in their standing The Brethren consist of our Br. Eld Craw and Br. John Holms and Br William Johnson and Br. E. Harra_t Read and Approved of by the Church.

March the 12 1796 Then Met in Confrence by an Appointment at the House of Br. Isaac Reynolds. Open meeting by sing. And prayer to Almighty God for Divine Assistance and then proceed to Business as folows 1ly Renewed Covenant and found the Church in a good Union as a body 2ly Set open doors 3ly Received the Report of the Committee Bearing date Floridia, March the 5 1796 Read and Approved of by the Church. 4ly Chose Br. Leon Bruster Br. Semour Sherwood to visit Brethren that did not attend the Said Conference.

Saturday May the 14 1796 Then Met in Confrence by an Appointment at the House of Br Isaac Reynolds. Open Meeting by prayer to Almighty God for Divine Assistance and then proceeded to business as follows 1ly Renewed Covenant and found the Church in a Good union as Body 2ly Set open Doors 3ly Received a request from our beloved Brethren at Warrenbush bearing date Florida May the 7 1796 Requesting of us to send them Assistance to remove Difficulty with Br Eri Parker. 4ly Chose our beloved Eld. With Br Green, Roggers and Br Harris and Br Wm. Johnson to attend the Said request the 14 of June next. 5ly Chose our beloved Elder to Attend the Shafbury Association Siting at Stockbridge Baptist Meeting House the first Wensday in June next. April the 27 1796 Then Met in Confrence by an Appointment at the House of Br William Johnson. After sing. And prayer to Almighty God for his Assistance and proceed to Business as follows

April the 9th 1796 Then Met in Confrence by an Appointment at the House of Br. Isaac Reynolds. After sing. & Prayer to Almighty for Divine Assistance then proceed to Business follows 1ly Renewed Covenant and found the Church in a good union as Body 2ly Set open Door. Br. Isaac Bruster was chose Clarke for the Day.___________________[line drawn with continuation of report for April the 27 1796]__________________1ly Chose our Beloved Elder Sam Roggers Modarator for the Day 2ly Br Green Roggers Manafested a Grief against the Church 3ly the Church took it up and labor upon it but chould[sic] not ease Br Roggers mind in full 4ly the Church voted to refer the Said Difficulty to the nex[sic] Meeting of Business 5ly Sister Hannah Sweet & Juda Helme manafested a Grief 6ly the Church Labor upon them and measureablely [sic]remove them 7ly Br William Johnson and Br James __Made returns of visiting Brethren Agreeable to the Minds of the Church 8ly Br Isaac Reynolds __to the Sattisfaction of the Church 9ly Br Elder Roggers and Br Bruster made returns to the Sattisfaction of the Church. Read and approved of by the Church.

June 5th ( or 11th) 1796 Then Met in Confrence According to an Appointment at the House of Br. Isaac Reynolds. Opend meeting by sing. And prayer to Almighty God for his Assistance and then proceed to Business as follows 1ly Renewed Covenant and found the Church in a good union as Body 2ly Set open Doors. 3ly Received Elder Samuel Roggers by letter a member of this Church 4ly Chose Brethren to visit those that did not attend 5ly Received a request from our Beloved Brethren belonging to the __Baptist Church of Christ in Greenfield request of us our Beloved Elder Roggers to administer the Sacred ordnance of the Lords supper and it was granted and Br Oliver Huit and Isaac Bruster the time of __attendance to be the first Labor the last Saturday of this Month and Br Wm. Johnson was appointed to the Said Request too. 6ly Received a request from the Second Baptist Church of Christ in Saratoga requesting one or both of our beloved Elders to attend a Council with a number of Members belonging to Sister Church. Beginning 2 day of July at ten o’Clocke in the morning. The said request was read and granted and agreeable to the Said request. We Chose our beloved Elder Sam.el [sic] Rogger with Br Isaac Reynolds and Br Wm Johnson to attend the Said request the specified time. Read and approved of by the Church.

And prayer to Almighty God for his Assistance then proceed to Business as follow 1ly Renewed Covenant and found the Church in a good union as Body. 2ly Set open Doors 3ly The Church voted the Sarament to be Adminstered ___at Mr. Fitches after the next [Sabaoth evening?]. Read and approved of by the Church.

July the tenth 1796 The Church grant a vote for Elder Cran to be Absent four or five months Ensuing if we see fit.

August the 13 1796 Then Met in Confrence by an Appointment at the House of Br. Isaac Reynolds Jun. After Sing. And Prayer to Almighty for his Assistance then proceed to Business as follows 1ly Chose Br. Isaac Bruster modderrator for the day 2ly Renewed Covenant and found the Church in a good union as body 3ly Set open Doors 4ly the Church past an act that a day for a month should be set apart for to do Business __of the Covenant meeting the Said meeting to take place a Fornight from the Covenant presizely {sic} at 2 o’clock After part of the day at Br. William Johnson’s House. 5ly Chose Br. Isaac Reynolds Junior and Br. Semour Sherwood to visit Brethren that did not attend.

After Singing and Prayer to Almighty God for his Assistance & then proceed to business as follows 1ly Chose Elder Sam Roggers Modarator for the Day. 2ly Received a letter from our beloved Brethren at Warrenbush bearing date October the 1 1796 Containing a Charge against a Br of this Church And the Church Received it and appointed Brethren to answer the Said Charge, to wit namely Bro Abbot and Bro Harris 3ly Received a accusation against Sister Commings. The Church labor upon the Difficulty and could not gain her and the Ch.h [sic] see fit to refer the Said Difficulty to the next Covenant Meeting. Read and approved of by the Church.

Chose Bro Ezra Abbot Clark for the Day. 2ly Sister Comming Observed upon matters of difficulty. Respecting her the Church posponed the Matter till the next Church Meeting 3ly SisterPratt being Recommened by two Sisters & one Bro formerly belonging to the Church that she belonged to is now considered a member of this Church. NB Got the above Information by the help of Eld Sam.el Rogers. The Church called upon Bro Isaac Bruster to know if he would consent to be set apart as a Deacon. Answered that he was willing to be Subject to the Church. Read and approved of by the Church.

November 26 1796 Then Met in Confrence by an Appointment at the House of Brother Wm. Johnson. After sing. And prayer to Almighty God for Assistance then proceed to Business as follows 1st Chose Bro. Isaac Bruster Moddarator for the Day. Agreed to refer a difficulty Subrising[sic] between Sister Coming & the Church to next meeting of Business 2nd Chose Brethren to visit those that did not attend to wit Bro Bruster Isaac Reynolds Jn.er and Bro Abbott to visit Sister __4th Moved to Call upon Brethren belonging to other Churchs living among us to their Duty Relative to Christian Religion

December the 10th Day 1796 then Met in Conference Acording to Apointment at the House of Brother Isaac Reynolds’s After singing and prayer to Almighty God for His Asistance proceeded to Business as follows firstly Chose Elder Samuel Rogg(ers?) Moderator for the Day. 2ly Chose Brother Samuel Baily Clark for the Day 3ly Renewed Covenant and found the Church in a good union as a body 4th Set open Door 5thly Randall Smith offered himself a candidate for Babtism and received By the Church 6thly Sarah Smith offered herself a candidate for Babtism and Received By the Church 7thly James Prat offerd himself a candidate for Babtism and Received By the Church 8thly Brother Ezra Abbot Chose to the office of Deakon 9thly Voted for a councill to be sent for to ordain Brother Isaac Brewster to the office of Deacon. The Councill to visit the 31 day of this instant December at the Schoolhouse near Brother Brewsters at 10 of the Clock in the forenoon. Read and Aproved By the Church.

December the 25 Day 1796 Then Met in Conference acording to Apointment at the house of Brother Willm Johnson and after singing and prayer to Almighty God proceeded to Business as follows Firstly Chose Brother Ezra Abbot Moderator for the Day 2ndly Choase Brother Samuel Baily Clark for the Day 3dly took up a diffuculty subsisting Between Sister Cummins and the Church. Sister Cummins acknoldges herself altogether in the fault. The Church acknoledge themselves as Satisfied as a body 4thly Appointed Elder Rodgers Brother Abbot & Brother Isaac Brewster & Brother Seymore Shearwood as a councill to visit Brethren Belonging to other Churches Liveing among us to take Labour with them that they may give reason why they neglect their Duty towards us a church 5thly Chose Brother Samuel Bailey Clark for the Church. Read and Aproved By the Church.

Greenfield January the 15th Day 1797 Then met in Conference acording to Apointment at the house of Brother Isaac Reynolds and after singing and prayer to God for His asistance proceeded to Business as follows firstly Chose Brother Isaac Brewster Moderator 2ly Renewed Covenant and found the Church in a good union as a body. 3ly Brother John Grippin and his wife Rachel Grippin made a request to join this Church and were received by Letter 4thly Brother Isaac Cummins requested a letter, his request Granted 5thly Sister Hannah Sweet requested Letter. The Request Granted. Read and Aprove By the Church.

Page 26 Greenfield January the 20th Day 1797 Then Met in Conference By Appointment and Opened Meeting By Singing and prayer to God for his asistance proceed to Business as follows first Chose Brother Seymore Shearwood Moderator 2ly took up the Matter Between Brother Abbot and Sister Marks & after some Labour ajurnd[sic] to the house of Brother Cummins for one hour. Then Met and Opend Meeting By prayer and took up the Difficulty Between Brother Abbot and Sister Marks. S. marks took up the Matter By acknowledgement and the Brethren and Sister acknowledge themselves Satisfied in Respect to her. Likewise Brother Abbot acknowledged Satisfaction. Forthly took up a diffculty Between Sister Cummins and the Church In Respect to her ongospel[sic] Conversation. Sister Cummins took up the Matter by Acknowledgement but not to the Satisfaction of the Brethren and Sister and after some Considerable Labour the Brethren and Sisters that were present unanimously agreed to Excommunicate her.

Greenfield fabruary the 25th Day 1797Then Met in Conference acording to appointment at the Dwelling house of Mr John Scot and after singing and prayer to Almighty God for his assistance proceed to Business as follows first Chose Brother Seymore Shearwood Moderator Secondly past a vote that no no matter of Difficulty shall be Brot forward to the Church till the first and second steps of Labour have been taken and No Matter of Difficulty Shall Be Brot forward to the Church till Sufficient proof is made against the offender So that No Evidance May Be Intarogated By the Church Nor those that Reproah the accusation. Thirdly appointed Brother David Mallery and Brother Daniel Greene to admonish Brother John Curtis to his Duty Likewise wrote to them to Inform them of the appointment 4thly appointed Brother Seymore Shearwood and B Isaac Reynolds to make a Settlement in Respect to the Expense of the Church. Read and Approved By the Church

Greenfield March the 11th Day 1797 Then Met in Conference acording to appointment at the house of Brother Isaac Reynold’s and after Singing and prayer to Almighty God for his asistance proceeded to Business as follows first Chose Brother Isaac Brewster Moderater Secondly Renewed Covenant and found the Church in a good Union as a body. Thirdly Set open Door. 4thly Benjamin Bump gave anetation of his Mind and Manifested a desire to Become a member of this Church and is Received as a candidate for Babtism 5thly Brother David Johnson who hath been a member of a church at the Great Bend Requests to join this Church and is Received By Letter. Read and Aproved by the Church
